Showing or Hiding the Sidebar in Élan

Control the Élan sidebar separately for the homepage, blog, posts, pages, categories, search, archives and error pages.

Élan controls sidebar visibility through the Sidebar settings in Blogger Theme Designer. Each page type has its own sidebar width.

The important rule

0px means hidden. Any positive width enables the sidebar for that page type.

Default Élan sidebar behavior

  • Homepage: 0px, hidden
  • Blog: 260px, visible
  • Single post: 0px, hidden
  • Static page: 0px, hidden
  • Category/label: 0px, hidden
  • Search: 0px, hidden
  • Archive: 0px, hidden
  • Error page: 0px, hidden

Change visibility

  1. Go to Theme → Customize → Advanced → Sidebar.
  2. Find the width setting for the page type you want to change.
  3. Set it to 0px to hide the sidebar.
  4. Set a positive width, such as 260px, to show it.
  5. Save and test that page type.

Available sidebar content

The Élan sidebar styling supports an About image, search, Reader Favorites/Popular Posts, label browsing, archive browsing and newsletter content.

Layout behavior

The theme detects the active sidebar width and adjusts the main layout automatically. If the sidebar is hidden, the content can use the wider layout instead of reserving an empty column.
